There are lots of ways you can save energy in your home without spending money.
Here are some of our top tips:
1. Switch off standby
You can save around £70 a year just by remembering to turn your appliances off standby mode.
2. Turn down your thermostat
Almost half the money spent on energy bill is absorbed by heating and hot water costs. Turning your heating down by just one degree could save up to £80 a year.
3. Turn off lights
Turn your lights off when you’re not using them or when you leave a room. This will save you around £30 a year on your annual energy bills.
4. Wash your clothes on a 30-degree cycle
You can save around £36 a year from your energy bill just by using your washing machine more carefully for example, using your washing machine on a 30-degree cycle, or reducing your washing machine usage by one load per week for a year.
5. Avoid using the tumble dryer
Avoid using a tumble dryer for your clothes. Instead, dry clothes on racks inside where possible or outside in warmer weather. This could save up to £75 per year.
6. Spend less time in the shower
Keeping your shower time to just 4 minutes could save a typical household £65 a year on their energy bills.
7. Avoid overfilling the kettle
Avoid overfilling the kettle and save yourself £14 in NI a year on your electricity bill.
8. Bleed your radiators
Bleeding radiators makes your home warmer and can help reduce the cost of your energy bills. It does this by removing air pockets which reduce the pressure in your system so you don’t need to turn the heating up as much.
