How do I
apply?
Now you’ve worked out that Rent to Own could help you move from renting to home ownership, please check the information below before applying:
About you (Criteria applies to all applicants)
- I am over 18
- I do not currently own any property or land in Northern Ireland or elsewhere
- I will live in the property as my only residence and will not use the property for business purposes
- I acknowledge that where I am married, a civil partner or part of a couple living together or intending to live together in a property then the application must be in the joint names of myself and my spouse, civil partner or partner.
- I am resident in the UK
- I have an adequate right to reside in Northern Ireland
- I have had no Payday Loans or Home Credit within the last 6 months
- Any Debt Relief Orders, bankruptcies or Individual Voluntary Arrangements that I had have been satisfactorily completed at least 3 years before applying
- I have no outstanding adverse credit at the time of making a Rent to Own application e.g. CCJ’s, Defaults
- I can afford to pay the £2,500 down payment plus a tenancy deposit which will be equivalent to the first months rent
- I am not under notice of termination of employment or redundancy.

Once you apply, you will be required to phone us and pay your assessment fee of £100. This is non-refundable.
In order to complete your application you will be required to send us a copy of the following documents to assessors@co-ownership.org. Please quote your E number on the email.
In order for your application to be completed and progressed as quickly as possible, please have the following information to hand before you start your application (required for both applicants):
- The last 3 months payslips for all employment (where employed)
- The last 3 months bank statements
- Last years tax calculation summary (SA302) & corresponding tax year overviews (where self-employed). For company directors we will also require your last 3 months payslips.
In addition to the above during the course of the application we may ask you to provide:
- Photographic ID – See list of acceptable documentation below
- Proof of current address – See list of acceptable documentation below
- Residency documentation
- Proof of savings e.g. savings statements
- Proof of any other income e.g. benefit award letters
The applicant must provide evidence of identity as follows: one from list A and one from list B or alternatively one from list A and in addition a further one from list A which shows the applicant’s current address on it.
List A
Photographic identity documents
- Current valid passport
- Current UK photocard Driving Licence (full or provisional)
- Current EU photocard Driving Licence (full or provisional)
- Current full old-style UK Driving Licence
List B
If not used under List A already
- Current UK photocard Driving Licence (full or provisional)
- Current EU photocard Driving Licence (full or provisional)
- Current full old-style UK Driving Licence
Or (if dated within last 3 months)
- Utility bill or correspondence from utilities supplier
- Rate Collection Agency correspondence
- Bank / building society / mortgage / credit union / credit card statement
- Inland Revenue correspondence e.g. tax coding notice
- Original vehicle registration document
- Northern Ireland Housing Executive / registered housing association tenancy agreement or correspondence
- Insurance certificate / policy for home address
